1.
I was born a sigh my life A lonely little lie. Help me see the paths concealed Colossal in the lie At night we watch the fireflies Courageously we learn to lie All the leaves the autumn freeze Are running out of light Afraid, in awe What faith in store And you promised me come on, come out May you always be the rising star Safe for weeks, the prophet speaks A prophecy no one believes It's not your fault, the curtain call Abandoned on your knees At night we watch the fireflies Courageously, we learn to lie I was born a sigh My life, a lonely little lie May you always be the rising star All aboard, the captain calls For honour we are here tonight It's not your cause, the brave men call It's better not to try May you always be the rising star Was it only for your charity?
2.
We are one voice talking in the dark tonight we are wise but we don't know we are one voice talking in the dark tonight we are candlelit and low In our hearts in our light in our dark in our fight Storm clouds come and they crack body blows at the back God knows why I think that come back We are two worlds eclipsing all the love we gave we are wolves against the snow we are two wound watches on your wrist you said one is fast and one won't go In our heart in our light in our dark in our life Storm clouds come and they crack body blows at the back black eye how'd you get that not up to much in the sack God knows how I think that come back
3.
You loved the girl, who loved the man Who slipped away under the sign? Open your eyes and you'll understand Who broke your back, the Gingerman We are only learning to dive We are only learning to dive You learned it all when you were five Holding your breath to stay alive Escape from the heat under the fan Learning to love my Uncle Sam We are only learning to dive We are only learning to dive You loved the girl, who loved the man Who slipped away under the sign? Open your eyes I bet you'd understand Who broke your back, the Gingerman The sign on the door deserves a hand Holding your breaths to be a man But down on the floor you'll realise The caterpillar-crawls and butter-flies Escape from the heat under a fan Learning to love our Uncle Sam We are only learning to dive We are only learning to dive Alison, the carousel Broken hearts, are not for sale Leave me here I understand Foreign girls are in demand Alison, the carousel Broken hearts, are not for sale Leave me here I understand Foreign girls are in demand Demand, in demand, demand In demand, in demand And we are only learning to dive We are only learning to dive We are only learning to dive We are only learning to dive We were barely learning to dive

about

Irish singer-songwriter Mark Geary has released five studio and three live albums.

Interchanging between his beloved vintage Martin, Gibson, Spanish and electric guitars, Geary’s sound is stripped back. His lyrics slice right through to the core revealing a life laid bare of human emotional frailty,

Time Out NY said, “His delicate songs about love and defiance recall Richard Thompson and John Lennon.”

We have handpicked these three tracks to demonstrate the diversity of Mark's music. The tracks were recorded live during gigs in Vienna (2011) and Graz (2012 and 2015).

Mark says "If you haven't had a chance to get to one of my gigs yet, it's a glimpse of what they're like. I like to tell stories/memories in between songs and I'll invite the audience to sing along with me because it's that connection with people that makes the night truly special".

The beautiful Fireflies, the devastating sadness of Happy (with a story/memory introduction), and a passionate stripped back version of Gingerman.

Bandcamp offers music in different quality download options. The lyrics are up and there are a couple of photographs you can download if you wish.

The beautiful Sparkle cover, designed by the talented artist Tara from Lemongraphs is also downloadable.

about

Mark Geary Dublin, Ireland

Irish singer-songwriter Mark Geary's sound is stripped back. His lyrics cut to the core revealing a life laid bare of human frailty, failed relationships, tenderness, grief and hurt.

Current single Spectre is hauntingly beautiful with layers of guitars. Written from a place of forgiveness and understanding.

The Forest is exquisite. A beautiful sound, its quietness is evocative.
